Tree Amigo Program

Learn * Volunteer * Build Community

Our City Forest offers the Tree Amigo class as a free 20-hour course designed to educate and empower individuals to become successful advocates of the Urban Forest and to utilize Our City Forest as vehicle for regular and active service in the San Jose community.

Course graduates become official "Tree Amigos" - Our City Forest's specially trained volunteer corps, and are invited to participate in ongoing trainings and fun community events.

Tree Amigos are required to create and fulfill a Service Agreement of attending 10 events within a year’s time. Areas of service include: coaching volunteers in planting and maintaining trees, helping run the community tree nursery, teaching elementary school classes, conducting grassroots outreach, and more!

Classes meet 5 hours weekly for 4 weeks and cover a breadth of topics, including:

   • The Urban Forest of San Jose

   • Selecting a Planting Site and Species

   • How to Properly Plant a Tree

   • Tree Maintenance

   • Species Identification
